The Most Basic of Questions

Throughout time there has been a list of "great questions" common to almost every culture. The question of " Is there anything after death?" has been echoed in our culture and others for thousands of years. Hundreds of religious figures and institutions have told us their views on the matter. Many have died for brief times, only to be revived and tell us the tales of their experiences in their brief stints into the hereafter. But with all of this, I doubt there is a man alive that didn't lay in his bed at night and wonder if there really is something after this all or not. A second of these great questions is childishly simple to ask, but is either profound or ludicrous to try and consider. The simple question of " Why are we here?"

In the real world, as intelligent and faithful as I am, I would not stand before any of you and even attempt to pretend I know with any certainty the answers to these questions. However, I think when running a fantasy game, one must consider the "big picture" from time to time . I believe as a game master this can give some form of logic and sensibility. So with this I present to you the answers to the most important questions ever asked for the world of Karador, and the multiverse of planes, space, planets and stars within its multiverse.

Lets start with the Multiverse. Its there, but where did it come from, if in fact it were not always there. For this game world, not only was Karador created, but so was everything else around it. As the Christian bible says, in the beginning there was the word, and the word was God. This is similar to the absolute beginning origin of the Karador multiverse. In the beginning there was nothing... nothing but a being, all alone in absolute emptiness. The great progenitor of all that would ever be. In this document we shall refer to this being as Elemeray, as do those rare few deity who have surpassed even the other divine beings in knowledge and insight.

Elemeray, existed within the absolute void, self absorbed in that there was nothing else to be so in. Elemeray thought and searched within himself, and there he found loneliness and longing. Even within the everything of existence which was him there was deep emptiness and further unfathomable void. For time unknowable and non existent, Elemeray's thoughts fell within this deep chasm of nothing within him. Then something changed. A though. A something that would be the most profound event that has ever or will ever occur. And nothing would ever be the same again. Elemeray realized that he didn't have to be alone.

Elemeray began to learn to create. because he had nothing to build with, he built with himself. For the first time, existence changed. with this change came a whole new reality. Infinity as Elemeray understood it was now different. Elemeray realized uncertainty. This too was profound for him. This was overpowered by want and curiosity. He began to build and learn from the building. Then there was another great change. Understanding allowed Elemeray to create not from himself, but from only his will. And create he did. Thus began a frenzy of creation. Among the first of his creations was time. Elemeray made a mistake in his haste and created time. For with time, there was gravity, and with gravity, there was mass. Elemeray didn't fully then realize time, nor was it as well though out as perhaps it should have been, but here it was. Fast in places, slow in other. Matter of seemingly random composition now flooded, washed and flow where it had before only been void. It was chaotic, and by today's standards small, but it was. Now to fulfill Elemeray's desires and vanquish the loneliness. Now he would create another.

Elemeray focused his thoughts and made manifest his will, and so came a being now known as Balreose. Balreose though a great being, and more potent than any other even today was a bit of a disappointment to Elemeray. Balreose was not as potent, or wise, or many other things as Elemeray. After all, Elemeray was God, and Balreose was not. How could a being anything less than God be able to be the one thing God needs. Even though Elemeray was still wanting, he was not so lonely anymore. The two became close, and loved one another. Regretfully, there relationship was one more like a pet and it's master would have. Not the true companionship that one needs. With this, Elemeray learned a great lesson. He looked about the chaos he had made with his early creation and enthusiasm and learned control and patience. But more importantly than that, he learned that great things are not just made... rather there is a process and great effort needed to create great things. And a truly great thing was his next thing to create.

Now it was time for Elemeray to set about the plans of making another omnipotent being. Somebody to be his equal. But how does one do that. The process that began was no less than the creation of the entire multiverse that would one day be like the developing embryo of one great being. The Multiverse brought about and set into its daily task of developing into a being all its own. Swirling about the infinity Elemeray created are worlds and planes without number. About those countless places, countless beings experience countless things over countless lives and time forever. I guess its true what they say about an infinite number of monkeys on and infinite number of typewriters.

Thus begins our examination of the hear after. It is true that every being, and in fact every thing as a bit of a soul, spirit or presence to it. This much is widely recognized by most men of knowledge. Most however believe that a person of being owns their soul in some way. The fact of the matter is that there is only one great spirit which may one day be the being Elemeray seeks to create. This soul is broken up into infinite parts and sent along with all beings to experience their existence with them. Well to an extent anyways. Its not like a soul is just a hitch hiker. The soul is what the person is. The body just a form around it. Everything a being is, their thoughts, wills, wants, feelings, desires, loves, hopes, etc. are those of the soul he has. When the body dies, the souls may spend a time free from its mortal coil, but after not too long, it shall return to a place made for the great soul. There it will temporarily re-assimilate, only to be sent out again to live a new experience. For the great soul, this is all about experiencing everything. This is not reincarnation as commonly understood. A soul of a most holy man is just as likely to return as a demon, rock, tree, insect, deity, or patch of pond scum as anything else. after that it will be something else, and after that something else again. This does not mean that a rock and a Human have the same soul, rather what each has comes from and goes to the same place, ultimately having the same function. What does this mean for a hear after relative for mortal creatures. it means that there is a time when the self, or the soul is released from the body and has an experience. Until the souls are called back, generally a huge number at a time as a world or plane has a is destroyed, they do fall under the influence of deities, devils and the like, and may very well experience and eternal reward or damnation that isn't quite forever.
