Popular Stories, Tales
and Rumors heard all throughout Keverton
Parps ghost in the mine-
In the month of Rhine in the year 1447, a Mine worker in Jakiel Smith had
a rather unfortunate accident in the coal mines, where in some manner,
a pick ax ended up in his back as he fell through a shaft from one floor
to another. Shortly after, a series of deaths, accidents and thefts occurred.
Many speculate that the ghost of Jakiel is responsible. ( He
was in fact murdered by the mine foreman named Bilbren Jennerd because
he knew of a huge diamond within the mine that Bilbren wanted to keep a
secret.) ( Events
are actually Bilbren trying to protect his secret, Yet there are small
creatures attempting to scare off miners to prevent the removal of the
gemstone vein to keep an earthquake from occurring)
The Boy, The Knight, and
the Griffon- In the year 1436, a knight named
Sir Tresesis of Renwell keep was escorting a caravan form Ascort to Hoovra.
On the way there, the caravan was beset by a griffon. Sir Tresesis was
mortally wounded in the defending of the caravan. As Sir Tresesis was dying,
a young boy of 10 named Tildis rushed from the caravan and took up the
knights sword. In a brave and lucky strike, the boy blinded the griffon.
The griffon made an escape. With his last breath, the knight gave the boy
his sword and a pendant and told him to travel to Renwell keep where he
would be made a knight. Today 22 year old Sir Tildis is in fact the boy
who became a knight. ( This story
is primarily true with the basic difference that dying Sir Tresesis did
not tell the boy to go and be a knight. That was the boy's father's idea.
The knighthood did however believe the story, and the boy underwent a long
training period often forgot in the telling of the story before he was
actually made a warrior. )
The Speaker with Deamons-
In the summer of the year 1440 a man named Samual Megan in the city of
Parp awoke one night to find his son Joel Missing. After a search, many
of the neighbors were alerted by his calling for his son, and joined in.
Eventually some townsfolk decided to go out to the mines to search. On
their way their, they are said to have found Joel, stumbling home, covered
in blood and carrying a knife. He is quoted as having said " I had
to do my friends in the mine a favor." The Megan family left Parp
shortly after the event. ( The
fact of the matter is that Joel did know the small creatures that live
in the coal mine of Parp. One night after having been beaten by his father,
he ran off to the mines to hide. He took a kitchen knife for his protection
for the trip. After being too scared of the mine, he began his way back,
to be found by the searchers. The blood was from him having been beaten.
The Megan family moved to Tis, and changed their name to Halden, partially
to avoid the stigma to Joel, and partially to keep Samual from being found
out as the monster he was. Joel, now 20, having lived with an abusive father
and being no stranger to befriending the unseen beasts has begun to delve
into making pacts with gods and deamons. He now calls himself Cheldair.
)
The Giant King-
It is said that a great kingdom exists to the north where a human city
and several smaller towns are ruled by a mighty giant. This kingdom is
said to be a peaceful place where men live in safety. It is said that this
kingdom is isolated, self sufficient, and does very little trade. The great
city in the center is said to be perhaps three times as large as Nibis,
and those there dwell in happiness and enlightenment. (oddly
enough the story is mostly true. The Kingdom is named Fethingtom, and the
City is named Taretem. The ruler there is not a giant, but in fact a kind
titan named King Satrem, who knowing the history of Tymyth, hopes to make
this new place one of good rather than rampant evil magic.)
The Rake-
Sailing the many seas of the world is said to be a ship known only as The
Rake. This boat is said to be larger than any vessel ever made by man,
and to be built of gnarled black wood. The sails of this massive ship are
three huge pair of bat's wings. The Rake is indeed said to be a deamon
ship. The Rake is said to travel the seas with it's undead crew looking
for boats to plunder of the souls of their crews. Unlike other boats that
can not cross the sea due to the serpents there, The Rake seems to have
no trouble. Some stories tell of a man who sold his soul to something on
the rake for passage back to old Tzmyth ( This
story is surprisingly accurate)
The Diamond Isle-
It is said that a volcanic island exists south east of Kelverton. The island
is a dense jungle filed with exotic creatures. Within the mountains of
the island, there are said to be vast diamond mines. This is the only known
source of diamonds in New Tzmyth. In the year 1443, a merchant company
established a small town there to bring back diamonds and anything else
of value they could find. Around 1444, a couple dozen survivors returned
claiming a great tragedy. The story is muddled, but there is much mention
about either new settlers becoming, or natives already there turning cannibal
and ransacking the little village. There were also reports of a great dragon
on the island who was never seen himself, but his signs were everywhere.
People claim he was somehow involved. ( Yes
there is a tropical island there. Yes it has rich diamond mines. There
is a near human species of beings there who do eat human flesh when oppertunity
presents. These beasts do serve and offer sacrifice to a large dragon who
lives upon the isle )
The Breath of God-
In the year 1400 AE, The first appearance of an annual meteor shower was
noted. When it was first observed, it was often called Hammerun's Shower,
after and old hermit who came to the city of Nibis the week before, speaking
about the end of the world and foretelling of the shower. Since that time
the shower has returned every year on the 19th of Jelsis. Though there
are several meteor showers that astrologers can predict the dates of, this
one is viewed as having Incredible significance. Having first appeared
at such an even year, and return exactly on an annual basis. Many rumors
surround the cosmic significance of this happening, but all agree it means
something of great importance. Due to this, it has recently become known
as "The breath of God". A rather impressive title for a society
that is relatively non religious. ( 100%
true, see information about the diety Temshuit for more info
)
Tebrith-
For tens of years now, it has commonly been known that Long ago the Order
of Thaton became involved in a struggle with a powerful litch known as
Tebrith over an object of power know as the Orb of Telemani. This orb was
said to be of incredible power and used by a arch magi from old Tzmyth
to protect his entire principality. When the order had uncovered the orb,
it quickly attracted the attention of Tebrith. As the order was bringing
their prize back to be studied, they were attacked by the forces of the
litch. In a pitched battle, the orb was used improperly. It simply disappeared.
To this day, Tebrith believes that the order deceived him, and are still
in possession of the orb. To this day, the litch and his troops stalk the
members of the order, and often lay in wait around Thaton hold hoping to
exact revenge on members coming and going. This private little was is known
to make travel around the hold dangerous . (This
story is a complete fabrication designed and spread to discourage the currious
from snooping around Thaton Hold.)
Rogue Mage-
It is commonly known that all mages in Keverton are members of the Order
of Thaton save for one. Allegedly, a single mage named Lenderof teaches
young students the basics of spellcraft at Sigweum. Lenderof is thought
to be a retired mage of some power looking for a new student to pass his
knowledge down to. Lenderof denies all of this. Students and visitors to
the school however have noted strange noises, lights, odors, and even the
occasional sounds of a magic fight occurring about the campus. Most agree
that Lenderof is responsible, and some suggest that the mages of Thaton
are trying to kill him off, or to take something from him. (story
is half right. Lenderof is a mage, though he is a full and loyal member
of Thaton. He's teaching looking for good prospects for apprenticeship
into The Order. Occasionally Lenderof is put into a position where a little
magical expenature is necessary to avoid many of the hazards that supprisingley
present themselves in a fantasy world. )
The Island Kingdom of Lord
Winsfeld- Some decades ago a powerful man named
Ilrand Winsfeld assembled a small army to settle a small island he had
discovered south west of the mainland who's waters are safe. He had commissioned
several large ships which he had loaded up with men and supplies which
he had planned to take with. Evidently their initial trip was successful
because some weeks later the empty ships returned to port to take more
supplies. For many years his fleet carried goods to and from the fabled
isle. One day however, those ships simply stopped. ( Story
is is true, the isle however has fallen mostly under the controle of local
creatures and the once strong human presance there has now dwindled
)
The Hallowed Glade-
Over the last decade a number of individuals have meet their deaths by
various means in the woods south of Ellet. A few ( about 4 ) have stumbled
out of the woods a great deal of time later. After emerging from the woods,
they all have completely reformed their lives seeking to redeem themselves
and set things of their past right. All seem completely resolved to settling
down and living full and complete yet simple lives. They all seem to be
struck with profound love, caring and respect for all things. All of these
individuals when asked about the matter are pleasant and amiable, yet will
not tell what happened to them. ( All
of the above information is true. The fact of the matter is that a small
group of fey have a layer within the wood. They have wondrous healing powers
which includes the resurrection of the dead. The fey are driven to take
pity on any they encounter, and as such many have been healed and brought
back from the dead. Any healing contact from these fey completely cleanses
the mind and soul. It is impressed upon those saved that the secret of
the wood must be protected to prevent the inevitable exploitation of the
fay. Only 4 who have been healed have returned to civilization, though
another 5 remain in the wood and live with the fey )
Spider Path-
Of the many dangers of the road, the greatest of concern for those traveling
between Tassin and Tarim are the giant spiders. Many a tale are told of
large spiders who's bodies the size of a man's head and legs 2 ft long
apiece dropping upon travelers from tree limbs above. It seems the woods
through which this road cuts is infested with them. ( This
story is completely true. Hundreds of such spiders make their webs high
in the tree tops and feed off birds that migrate through their wood.
)
Tarim's Serpent
-Popular tales of the fisherman of Tarim often revolve around encounters
with a small sea serpent that hunts the coasts around that city. It's reputation
for allowing brief sightings of itself are legendary, and it seems determined
to play havoc by continually capsizing small fishing boats. Though few
supportable stories exits about it ever actually killing a man, there are
many with the scars to prove that it does with some frequency take a bite
at it's victims. ( Story is true,
there is a small and rather stupid see serpent living in that area. It
sinks small boats in a pathetic attempt to eat them. It bites hapless humans
trying to eat them too and gives up when it can't swallow a creature it's
own size in a single gulp. )
The Abysmal Wood-
A small section of the woods between Jelob and Hes has grown to be known
as the abysmal wood. Those unfortunate enough to find their way here have
been known to encounter and be attacked by all manner retched creature.
Many have seen the trees themselves take up horrible visages and assail
those who have entered their domain. ( This
story is in fact the result of a rare fungus known as Allarania who's
airborne spore induce hallucinations and fear in humans who breath it.
Those exposed frequently have episode in which they injure, sometimes fatally,
themselves struggling with and fleeing hallucinations with less than their
normal faculties )
Cerberus-
The town of Ardwin is guarded over by a huge wolf who's massive frame is
near 5 feet tall and 2 and a half thick. Story has it that some 5 years
ago or so it wandered into town quite like any normal dog looking for scraps
and becoming more and more familiar with the locals until a mutual trust
developed between itself and some of the towns folk. The unexpected happened
was when that semi domesticated wolf turned out to be a an exceptionally
large wolf pup. As time went on, it became sort of a village pet, being
looked after and feed by many of the locals like many dogs are. This one
just happened to grow up really big. Today it has dug it self out a layer
under Adwin Alacaster's shop who doesn't much mind the extra security the
giant wolf provides. Cerberus takes to frolicking about town and keeping
an eye on locals. He is very protective of his human friends and fiercely
guards them against outsiders. Cerberus is well known for his protective
streak for children. Visitors are strongly cautioned as to hostility towards
locals. ( This story is true but
lacking. A woman named Lalya Relleam lives in this town in a home right
next to Adwin Alacaster's shop. Lalya unbeknownst to the population is
a high druid priestess who became pregnant some six years ago at a druidical
feast day. A boy named Nicolas Relleam was born of her and is considered
by the coven of great significance and potential. Though Cerberus is protective
of all his human friends, Nicolas Relleam is his real charge which the
coven had summoned him to protect. )
Oracle's Crusade-
Some months back an elf for reasons unknown to the population of Fini made
an assassination attempt against that town's much loved and well renown
oracle. The oracle blessed with the gift of foresight evidently foresaw
the assassination attempt and secretly armored her body where the assassin's
arrow would strike. Though the attempt failed, the population is none the
less outraged. Elves in general are now hated in Fini. More over, there
is a growing movement which seeks the destruction of all elves.
( The Oracle at Fini has never spoke
in such a way as to promote this anti elf trend now growing in Fini. She
has also never spoke to hush it. Locals take her silence as approval. There
is a growing movement in Fini of the increasing mistrust of elves in general
and the suspicion that there all up to no good. The Oracle is aware of
the elven plans and is intentionally allowing this movement to grow. Before
she was content to simply motivate humans to prosper contrary to the elven
plan. With their attack on her, he now believes that elves need be removed
entirely. )
Workers Rebellion-
Ellet is perhaps the least stable town in all Keverton. Growing within
it is what can only be described as a "political party" of workers.
This group known as "the cutters" are made up primarily of those
in the wood trades such as lumber jacks and carpenters. The town for generations
as existed as a massive plantation of sort owned by a single powerful family,
the Ellertons. The cutters as of late have been flexing their mussel by
assuming control of many local businesses and civil functions with a minimal
of violence. The Ellerton family has pleaded to Renwell keep to "quell
the riots and rebellion". Renwell keep has sent some troops only to
reduce violence, and are not attempting to reestablish the Ellerton family.
( The momentum of the movement is vastly over
reported. The cutters are gaining ground and will most likely control the
town in the near future, though it really isn't that much more than they
already had. Stories are often told of the "sweeping reforms"
occurring there, but little is really different on the surface
)
The Chilendrey Spys-
The guild of Chilendrey has long acted as a large postal business for Keverton.
Stories are many however about the guild actually being a group of thieves,
spies and assassins. Many believe that their position as postal carriers
allows them access to all manner of information they use to help them conduct
their work. As further proof of this, magi and officials of Renwell keep
often use code when sending mail by means of this guild. Others suspect
that this guild in fact serves the mages guild and assists them in their
vigil over Keverton. ( The story
is basically false. The guild has in the past and occasionally still does
read the mail of particularly wealthy individuals in order to "augment"
their future business decisions so as to make good investments etc. For
the most part however the guild is basically on the up and up
)
The Ruins of Tar'nel -
This old ruin of a city sits at the northern outlet of the bay that separates
Keverton from Vestenhail. Rumors tell stories of this place being a haven
for trolls and the location of a odd temple maintained by a sphinx. Stories
tell of religious services still occurring here, but none know whom partakes
of these services.
