The Infirm Pool

The infirm pool represents the number of people in your community who are present yet unable to really contribute in a traditional working manner. These people are generally elderly, disabled, maimed, terminally ill, mentally ill or developmentally impaired. People in the civilization's Infirm Pool are generally not capable of work in any considerable respect. Additionally it must be noted that the Infirm Pool is a dead end street. It is for people in the population whom, short of a miracle, will never be functional, healthy adults again.


Infirmity Rate- The Infirmity rate indicates what percentage of your normal population become infirm each month. Individuals will be randomly removed from your general population and placed into your infirm pool in a quantity dictated by this score. Your civilization's infirm rate can be reduced by such things as safer work environments, better health care and better diet. No matter how hard you try, people will still age and become infirm in some quantity. The two greatest factors that can increase your infirm pool numbers are pestilence and war. Due to combat, once healthy soldiers can become infirm at an alarming rate.

Mortality Rate- The infirm suffer losses in a similar manner to all other population groups. Each month the civilization will loose a percentage of it's total based on the civilizations normal mortality rate. The Infirm Pool is more susceptible to the hardships of life and tend to die of at a rate of twice the normal mortality rate of the civilization in general.

Infirm Disenfranchisement- A percentage of your population's infirm citizens will be stuck without family or friends to care for them. This rating will let you know what percentage of your Infirm pool are stuck in such a predicament. It is up to you how to handle this problem.


Basic Provisioning

Even though they produce very little, you still must see to it that your civilization has the resources like food, drink and shelter to accommodate the number of people your infirm pool represents. Unlike children, the infirm require a full person's share of food, drink and shelter, and roughly twice the medical attention.


Reducing your Infirm Pool

The civilizations Infirm pool reduces on it's own as a function of the mortality rate. Unlike children, the Infirm never grow out of it or improve. Because of this lack of potential and drain on resources, some less scrupulous leaders seek dubious ways to limit and reduce the numbers of infirm people in their civilization. There are almost countless ways to do this, but be warned that public outrage and diplomatic problems can be quite serious if a leader brings or allow harm to this population.
