Introduction The War of Moloch |
![]() |
The Year is 387 AC ( After the Coming). King Edmond Withercrom rules his kingdom of Morcron in a just and fair way. Morcron is the home to many humans and halflings. Dwarves and elves also live within his protection though in few number. King Edmond Withercrom is a new king, having been king now for only four years. His father King Fouler Withercrom passed his crown shortly before his death. Morcron now dominates the civilized northern portion of the continent of Hallnder. It is in a subtropical climate with many rolling hills, forests and rivers, similar to modern day Ireland. Morcron has many great cities in it's fourteen principalities.
Morcron is a Kingdom of law and righteousness. Churches, monasteries and cathedrals decorate and serve her towns, cities and roads. Service to Falor is the state religion. Falor is the god of strength, mercy and hope. His religion in Morcron is vast and his clergy grant all people the divine magics of their faith. Aside from Falor, three other deities are worshipped to a far lesser extent. Wolden is venerated as a god of travel and travelers. Morkel is venerated as god of agriculture and harvests. Lastly, Yeris is deity of merchants and craftsmen.
The southern half of the continent ( not part of the main map) of Hallnder was until some 20 years ago was the Kingdom of Allatroch. During the last 20 years Allatroch has been fighting and loosing a great war it has been waging against an invading hoard of vile creatures. At this point it is all but crushed save for some few surviving fortifications. This hoard is said to be lead by a dark figure know as Draul who is the servant of the dark demon god Moloch. The hoard consists primarily of orks, goblins, ogres, trolls, troglodytes, kobolds, and undead, though more fearsome and rare creatures of evil find their homes in it was well. This hoard now brushes up against Morcron, and battles have already ensued. Many of the border trade towns have already been raided or outright sacked by the hoard that obviously cares not for political borders. Though Morcron has prepared for this now for many years and the hoard has been weakened, it is still thought to be pitched battle in the hoards favor. Four years ago, Good King Fouler Withercrom saw his own death of age and decided instead to meet his fate on the field of battle in Allatroch. No more bold a statement of support for Morcron's embattled brethren could be made, nor any louder call for support or preparedness.
You are a trusted functionary of the kingdom of some noble blood. It is not uncommon for children of noble birth to be denied land and vassals when they have older siblings. For many years now you have served the throne in a variety of manners. Now you are getting old however and time has come for you to put your hands and feet to rest and your experience to the kings service. For your years of dedication, it is time that you be rewarded with a command of your own, even though you're now wise enough to know that command means more work and responsibility. Come what may, being in charge is still being in charge. At last you will have your birthright. At last you shall be dubbed an Earl and be given a county to rule over.
Conflict along the old Morcron / Allatroch border has been heating up and many resources are being transferred there in hopes of holding that line and preventing incursion into Morcron. Wars are fought not only by soldiers on the front, but by supply back home. You are being tasked with the founding of a city from scratch which will serve a number of functions. First it will be a place for those displaced by the war to resettle at, Secondly it will serve to provide needed goods such as food, materials and arms for the war effort. This project is the brain child of General Walbert Rendel, Supply master chief of the Morcron Military, and he shall be your only commander save the king himself. Within your lands you will be lord with out peer with the blessing of the king himself. He cares not how, but you must assure he will have the resources he needs. You will receive periodic reports of what goods are and are not needed. Aside from this, who knows. These new cities are to be build in land still not yet completely tamed. They will be on the isles of Dorsfeld and Worth.
For you, this is the beginning of The War of Moloch
