Holidays

1) Morkel's Fair- This is the day after the long cold that farmers and ranchers open up their granaries and barns to see how their seed and livestock have faired through winter. In preparation for the new year, priests of Morkel hold services as well as bless livestock and bushels of seeds to help with the bounty of this years crop. This is often a parade of sorts as the clergy men are followed as they go from farm to farm. During this day it is also customary for townsfolk to give small gifts of gratitude to the farmers they know.

2) Feast of Yersis- The feast of Yersis is celebrated once a year by people giving gifts to family, friends and neighbors. Though these gifts can be purchased, it is considered good form if one makes the gift one's self. traditionally friends and neighbors exchange foods where as those of close relation expect something special. In the weeks prior to this feast, craftsmen are expected to assist any who ask for instruction in the making of gifts. Craftsmen consider this help a devotion to Yersis and an opportunity to look for potential apprentices or help around the shop.

3) The Feast of Alrod- Alrod was a man born more them three hundred years ago and commonly believed to be the third profit of Falor. This holiday commemorates his birth and life among the people of Morcron. Celebration of the day begins with a mass of Falor followed by various acts of charity to the poor, disabled, ill, and elderly. In most cases old clothing and good food are collected and distributed. Children are expected to visit and perform chores. In some towns, large numbers of people gather and build a home or two for those in need. This holiday has a very different meaning for soldiers. Just as Alrod was a comforter, he also can bearing warning of great evil to come and be confronted. Warriors spend the day in meditation, fasting and prayer for guidance, strength, wisdom and resolve in times to come.

4) Unification of Morcron- This holiday celebrates the forming of the kingdom of Morcron. Though the kingdom was the result of hundreds of years of wars, alliances and unions, the kingdom is commonly thought to have been created on this day in the year 142 BC ( Before the Coming). It was at this time that King Alsheron Withercrom was crowned king after having been expelled by his cousin Halpert Wentshem 8 years earlier. Upon king Alsheron Withercrom's return, many of the wars that had sprung up over the eight years came to and end and Morcron was unified. The Unification of Morcron is celebrated by military parades and large public picnics where games are played and entertainment of all forms is provided.

5) Harvest Celebration- This mid fall celebration marks the very end of the agricultural season before winter. It's about this time the last of the crops should be brought in and stored away. Parades and parties are had where those who have labored hard in the field get to have fun and relax and where farmers show off the best of their yield. This feast is considered holy to Morkel, though it seems generally free of such religious trappings other than the occasional prayer.

6) Cold March- This day marks the beginning of the last week during which normal travel is possible until the end of winter due to snow. It is a time when many people set out to visit family and friends before winter prevents contact for many months. It is considered particularly important to visit sick and elderly relatives, lest you never be able to do so again. Starting on Cold March, a constant vigil is held by clergy of Wolden until the snow falls. Blessings are given to any who visit prior to a trip. The week after Cold March is a very busy shopping season as people stock up on many of the things they might need for winter.

7) The Dark Night- Dark Knight is known to be a high unholy evening when the worshipers of Moloch hold their rituals and makes sacrifice and other blood shed. The People of Morcron rightly live in fear of this night. Stories are filled with the deeds of Moloch's devoted, human and beast alike bringing arson, poison, murder, rape, slaughter and pillage; and most of these stories are based in truth. During Dark Night all of the kingdom is on high alert. Everybody practices fasting such as to avoid any poisoning as well as showing devotion to the gods of light. Generally a high mass is held all night long in the center of each town where all the towns folk cluster together under watchful military, town guard and militia.

8) Last Night- This is the time of year to remember loved ones lost in the last year. It is generally celebrated with a large public mass or devotion to Falor followed by families participating in meals at home where departed family members are remembered and spoken to as if present. Feasts are generally quite large if possible, generally made to the liking of those departed rather than those participating. Tradition also dictates that friends of the departed pay visits to homes of their dead friends and their families to visit them again on this special day. The focus of this holiday is on those whom have passed this year, though many take this day to remember, visit, and honor even the long dead. Legend has it that on this day spirits and the undead are easier to summon forth and create, though they are almost completely pacified. For this reason it is also known as a time when servants of light are known to seek out evil such as vampires and destroy them when they are most weak.
