Languages
I have made a house rule to modify how languages are handled. They are now much more like skills. They are bought and raised with skill points as other skills are. Characters are granted additional skill points at character generation to purchase languages. The full rules can be found Here
Poisons
D&D 3.5 uses a system for poisons where most simply do temporary damage to your attributes. I prefer more lethal poisons. Expect to see more poisons that will do hit point damage or that cause outright death if not resisted/treated.
